- figure out why my alien character won't move
- get rid of the 100/100 UI in the top left corner
- Make it so the Game Over text only shows up when your health is at 0
- add more interactive stuff to my game
This week I have been working on making a functional health bar. I actually got it to work and whenever I would collide with the alien character, the player health would go down. The main problem is I only want the Game Over text to show up when you run out of health and instead it just stays there. When I was trying to fix this issue I then broke my game because now my alien character won't follow the player like it use to and just stands there. It says that the variable player of the AIBasicScript has not been assigned. I must have accidentally deleted something and now I have to figure out how to fix this. Also another issue is that I don't know to get rid of the 100/100 UI in the top left corner. I have tried looking everywhere and I can not figure it out.

When I was watching a tutorial on Youtube I found out how to make a cool pattern for coaches or chairs. The first thing you do is just get a basic box shape and then make sure it has a good amount of segments. Then make it an edit poly and then highlight them so that you make a checkerboard. Then right click and hit connect. Then go to extrude and just make a small hole for all of them. Then go to extrude and have all the other edges selected and extrude by just .5. Then next you want to go to modifiers and go to TurboSmooth. This will then make it look like a nice cushion.
When I was watching a tutorial on Youtube this person recommended a website called www.cgtextures.com. They have tons of free textures that are very high quality. I'm always struggling to find texture, but now it's a whole lot easier. They have almost every texture you could possibly want. I made a rock using one of the textures they had and it turned out so good and that is why I want to recommend this website. Also usually when looking for good textures it can take some time to search and look for them, but on this website it is all great textures and they are all put into categories. I'm so glad I found this website because it will make my 3D models look better and will be faster.
I had a bus stop sign that was suppose to have text on it, but when I put it into Unity it didn't show up. To fix this I went to Photoshop and typed in my text that I wanted and saved it as a JPEG. Then, I went back into Unity and got that image and turned it into a sprite. I then just added this sprite into my scene and just resized it to fit my bus stop sign. This tip is very useful for any posters/signs you might want to put in your game. It's also very simple and easy to do. I'm still not sure why the text never showed up in my scene in the first place because when I rendered it in 3Ds Max it showed up.
Earlier this week I tried to fix my bullets because instead of hitting enemies, they go right through them and through the floor. To fix this issue I tried adding a box collider to it and instead of shooting bullets when you left click on the mouse, it makes the character fly up into the sky. I don't understand why it does that because that just doesn't make sense. Also I have been still trying to fix my health, but haven't figured it out. I also modeled a hover stop, which is like a bus stop, but more futuristic. The text didn't show up in Unity, so I went to Photoshop and created a little sign and then turned that into a sprite, so I could put it in my game. I need to just add more to the environment and make sure everything looks like it's at the same scale, so something that is suppose to be small isn't huge.
Agenda for next week
This week I worked on making a collision trigger a UI image. When I first did this I also tried to make my text and buttons appear, but I couldn't figure out how to do this. SO, with resources I had I decided to turn the dialogue into an UI image and I went in Photoshop and did this. It took me a really long time to find a tutorial that was simple and actually worked. I just used a simple invisible box as the thing you collide into and put it right in front of the player.I did this so right when you start and walk forward it tells you why your at this planet and what happened and then disappears when you walk passed it. I also was just looking through the assets in the Unity store and found this cool billboard and I thought I could advertise something that might be in the future, so you know it's a different era. I got a image and edited in Photoshop to say "Get a hover craft for only 5,000,000." Also I added an image of what a hovercraft might look like in the future. Also I have been trying to find a tutorial that makes a health bar that goes down when you make a collision with an enemy, but all the tutorials I have seen have it scripted so when you press a key on the keyboard it goes down. I found this really cool UI for a health bar that's already done, I just need to come up with a script that will actually work. I also had a problem with my powerup, but then I realized I had forgot to put the PlayerStats script on the FPSController. So, before every time I would pick up the blue crystal the game would crash, but I fixed that.
Agenda for next week
This week I worked on trying to make it so that when the player walks forward the start button appears. I have tried so many tutorials and I have still not fully figured it out. I have it now so that when you cross this invisible rectangle, the UI elements pop up, but nothing else. So, next week I need to figure out how to get the text and buttons to pop up.
