Agenda for next week
- find out why the player and car are moving in the same directions
- find a new inventory tutorial
- add a score system
I noticed that after my player shot their gun the bullets would start to build up on the floor and not disappear. Not only does it look bad, but it could cause some lag. The scrip is very simple, but it took me forever to find a script that actually worked. I set the script so it would destroy the object after 3 seconds. I need to also find a new tutorial for an inventory because I got confused on some steps on the previous one and I want to find a more simple one. Also I still need to figure out why my AI car moves at the same time and direction as my player. I'm not sure why their connected or how it happened, but I need to figure it out. I also want to figure out how to add a score system or something to work towards, so the person playing the game won't get bored. I didn't get much done because I was sick for two days, but i hope that the next week we are in school I can get a lot done.

This week I worked on making a light saber and another weapon that I made up. When making the light saber, I learned how to make a simple metal material and how to make things glow. To make the metal you just change the color to black in the material and turn up the glossiness to 10 and the Specular level to 130. This then gives you a nice, realistic metal look and it only takes about 30 seconds to make. I thought it would be a great to make a light saber because it relates to my futuristic theme. My weapon gives me like a transformers/power rangers vibe. I used the two things I learned from the previous tutorial to help me. I also have slowly been working on the inventory system and I hope to fully finish that next week. I want to make it so that there are only certain items that the player can pick up like food and weapons. I also really need to fix my car that follows the way points because right now the car moves in the same directions as the player. So, if they player jumps up into the air, then the car will jump up into the air. This might take a while to do because I'm not sure why it started doing this in the first place. Agenda for next week
When I was watching a tutorial on Youtube I learned a quick and easy way to make realistic looking metal on 3ds Max. First thing you do is go to the material editor and then click diffuse and just change the color to black. Then you go to Specular level and put it at about 130. Then also go to the glossiness and put that at about 10. his will then give you a quick and easy metal material. This tip will be super useful for the future because lots of things I model involve metal in them.
When I was learning how to make a light saber in 3ds max I figured out how to make things glow. What you do is you select your object and go to rendering and then environment after making a blank material. Go to the effects tab and then add the lens effect. Then go down to lens effects and pick glow. Then from there you can just mess around with the setting to get the type of glow you want and you can pick any color you want. This tutorial could be useful for lamps and lava too.
This week the only thing I got started on was a new and improved inventory because I had missed 3 days because of soccer. So so far I made the UI image base and found a tutorial that will hopefully work out. I'm hoping to finish this inventory by the end of the week. Also I want to work on making a weapon that a player can pick up and use. I want to make a weapon that isn't too basic like a knife, but something unique. The main problem I have with tutorials, is that usually I understand them until the middle of it and then mess one little thing up and then can't figure out how to fix it after that.
Agenda for next week
I am not exactly sure how, but one day a ton of my functions weren't working on my game. When my player went over the power up, my game would shut down. I figured out that the issue was because in the pick up effect section I hadn't put any effect there. So, once I added the fireworks back in, it fixed it. Then after that I realized that my way point system for my car wasn't working anymore. Again, I have no idea what I did to make everything stop working. So, after about two class periods I realized the problem. I realized that the name of the car wasn't the same as it was in the tutorial. After I changed it to AI Waypoint-Based Car the issue was fixed. After this I then realized that when the player shoots their gun the bullets look weird. They are extremely small and shoot in a weird direction. Right now I am not exactly sure how to fix this issue, but I'm in the middle of dealing with it. I also realized that when the alien enemy hits the player the health doesn't actually go down and that is why the Game Over text wasn't popping up at the right times.
Agenda for next week
I found out the reason my alien character wasn't following me was because I had multiple Player scripts and so it was messing up. So, I deleted the extra ones I didn't need and it fixed it. Most of this week I have been trying to figure out how to make it so that the player character can switch their weapons. I was trying to do it from a tutorial from 2013, but it would not work because it was Javascript and not C sharp. I added some arms to the Player controller to make my game more realistic. Also I tried another tutorial and it's also not working, so I might just try to do it for one more week and if I can not, then I'll move onto something different. I also haven't figured out why my Game Over script is still showing up, when I only want it to show up when the player health is zero. Either I need to click some button or I messed the script up. I'm also thinking about adding a score system, so if you get a certain number of points, then you unlock something.
