I tried making caustics in 3ds max, which is the reflection of light off of glass. Again, I tried, but did not succeed. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I followed everything in the tutorial. Maybe I am using an old tutorial and I need to find a newer one. It sort of worked when I did it last night with a sphere. Today I tried a new tutorial and I'm not sure if it is working or not.

Some main things I've learned are that it is never a good idea to start something new when you haven't fully finished something else. This is because then other errors could start to pop up randomly and you won't even know why. Also that making video games isn't as easy as it might seem. I never knew that making a game would take so much coding and effort. Making a game takes lots of different skills to complete. You need someone who is good at making models and someone who is good at coding. Making games takes a lot of different elements and can't be done in a short amount of time. Also it is hard to find tutorials that do exactly what you want. For example you might want a code that makes your player jump a certain distance when a certain thing touches you. The only way you can get a script for this, is to find a tutorial similar to this and work from that.
This week I worked on finishing up my score, which I did. So, whenever the player picks up a coin they get 100 points. I'm hoping to find something the player can buy with these points or adding a high score table, so people can compete. I also worked on making my players health decrease when the enemy touches them. I got this to work and when the player dies a UI pops up and say "You are dead" and also has a button that says restart if the player wants to try again. One issue I have right now is whenever the player collides with the enemy, the enemy starts floating into the sky. I have no idea why this is happening, so I'm trying to figure that out.
Agenda for next week
I've finally found a tutorial that I think will work for the score. The main issue I have is that most tutorials are blocked by dps. The tutorial I found looks pretty simple and so far it is working. I have coded my game, so when I pick up the golden coin, a sound plays. It took a while to find a cool sound, but I found one. I'm about half way through the tutorial, so I'll probably finish it on Monday. In the first picture, it shows the script for making the coin rotate and to set the value. Also I put the play sound action in this script. Then after that I just started making a new script for the Game Manager. This is so that when you pick up the coin it gives you a certain amount of points. I'm hoping to finish all of this by Monday. After this I want to add things that you can buy with these points.
Agenda for next week
This week I've been working on adding a point system, so I added these coins around my map and when you collect them you get a certain amount of points. I wanted the coin to look more realistic, so I added a shiny texture to it and put a light in it, which makes it look like it's glowing. Right now I'm struggling with the tutorial I'm using because they are using java script instead of c sharp, so I have just been resorting to looking at the comments for c sharp scripts people made. Right now when I pick my coin up it disappears, but the score doesn't change. I read the comments on the Youtube video and this has happened to a few other people. Also I'm not sure why, but lots of other errors started to pop up, which took a long time to fix. For example on my bush that spawns fruit, the fruit object was missing from the script randomly. Also I wanted it to look like one of those old fashioned games where the coins spins around in a little circle, so I did that.
Agenda for next week
This whole weak I have been working on health. I tried a tutorial where you have three lives and when your three lives are up, it's game over. When I try to play my game it still works, but it just doesn't work. When my enemy hits me, the three lives are still there. The tutorial was for a 2D game and mine is a 3D game, so that's why it's a little tricky. For next week, I want to finish the health and then I want to add a score system, so you can collect points and then buy things with those points. So, if you kill a certain enemy you could get 30 points and maybe a new, more powerful gun would cost 400 points. THis will make the game more fun.
Agenda for next week
This week I worked on making the enemy disappear after the player shoots the them. I figured that out, but it's after one bullet. I want to make it so after like 20 bullets the enemy dies. Also, right now I am working on adding a health bar for the enemy that will hover over them, so you know how much health they have. I just started this, so I probably won't finish this week. I also want to fix the inventory, but I still haven't found a good tutorial for that. Whenever I start a tutorial, it ends up being easier at the beginning and then becomes increasingly harder or the tutorial was made like ten years ago, so it doesn't work.
Agenda for next week
I noticed that after my player shot their gun the bullets would start to build up on the floor and not disappear. Not only does it look bad, but it could cause some lag. The scrip is very simple, but it took me forever to find a script that actually worked. I set the script so it would destroy the object after 3 seconds. I need to also find a new tutorial for an inventory because I got confused on some steps on the previous one and I want to find a more simple one. Also I still need to figure out why my AI car moves at the same time and direction as my player. I'm not sure why their connected or how it happened, but I need to figure it out. I also want to figure out how to add a score system or something to work towards, so the person playing the game won't get bored. I didn't get much done because I was sick for two days, but i hope that the next week we are in school I can get a lot done.
Agenda for next week
This week I worked on making a light saber and another weapon that I made up. When making the light saber, I learned how to make a simple metal material and how to make things glow. To make the metal you just change the color to black in the material and turn up the glossiness to 10 and the Specular level to 130. This then gives you a nice, realistic metal look and it only takes about 30 seconds to make. I thought it would be a great to make a light saber because it relates to my futuristic theme. My weapon gives me like a transformers/power rangers vibe. I used the two things I learned from the previous tutorial to help me. I also have slowly been working on the inventory system and I hope to fully finish that next week. I want to make it so that there are only certain items that the player can pick up like food and weapons. I also really need to fix my car that follows the way points because right now the car moves in the same directions as the player. So, if they player jumps up into the air, then the car will jump up into the air. This might take a while to do because I'm not sure why it started doing this in the first place. Agenda for next week
When I was watching a tutorial on Youtube I learned a quick and easy way to make realistic looking metal on 3ds Max. First thing you do is go to the material editor and then click diffuse and just change the color to black. Then you go to Specular level and put it at about 130. Then also go to the glossiness and put that at about 10. his will then give you a quick and easy metal material. This tip will be super useful for the future because lots of things I model involve metal in them.
